FASCIA

Every tissue in our body is wrapped in fascia, an interconnected web which holds our body together while also working as a lubricant to help our tissues glide with and against each other in order to move with ease.  However, things like physical trauma, postural patterns, repetitive movements and/or lack of movement causes the layers of our fascia to become restricted or “stuck”.  This restriction results in pain, tightness, poor posture and a reduction in range of motion.  Using a technique called Myofascial Release (MFR) we can release the fascial restrictions and re-align the structure of the body. MFR is one of the most effective techniques available for relieving pain & tightness, improving posture and restoring ease and range of movement. This approach of using Myofascial Release is sometimes called Structural Integration as it focuses on seeing the body not as separate parts but as an integrated whole.

MYOFASCIAL TRIGGER POINTS

Every muscle is made up of smaller threads called muscle fibers; the same way a rope is made up of smaller, thinner strands. Within these muscle fibers are chains of proteins called sarcomeres which contain actin and myosin. During a muscle contraction, the links in these chains (actin and myosin) bind together. Sometimes, after a muscle releases its contraction, some of these chain links stay bound, so that the muscle is not entirely released. These create what we call myofascial trigger points, more commonly referred to as “knots”. These knots can cause radiating pain through out an area of tissue and can sometimes radiate well beyond that area. Through manual techniques, these trigger points can be released, resulting in a return to healthy tissue function and relief from pain.‍ ‍This approach is called NeuroMuscular Therapy. It provides mot just relief from pain, but also improves circulation, nerve communication, proper biomechanics and posture.

At EVOLVE, we combine the Myofascial Release/Stucutural Integration approach with Neuromuscular Therapy in order to get the best of both worlds. We call this NEURO-MYOFASCIAL MASSAGE.

Our RELAX & RECOVERY MASSAGE treatments are focused more on a preventative and general maintenance approach, while also responding to whatever soft tissue issues you would like addressed. This way we can keep the body healthy, mobile and well aligned. Because, the best kind of pain, is the one that never shows up.
